In a recent episode of Inside Huntsville with Brenda Martin, Dr. Randy Barbour, the newly appointed Director of the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (ODEI), shared his aspirations for fostering a more inclusive community in Huntsville.
A Huntsville native, Dr. Barbour brings a wealth of experience to his role. His academic journey includes a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University, an MBA from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and a doctorate in Community Psychology from Wichita State University. Professionally, he has served as an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Alabama A&M University and held leadership roles at the Harris Home for Children.
Dr. Barbour emphasized the importance of understanding the diverse cultures that shape individuals. He stated, “Multicultural affairs represent the intersection of all aspects of who we are as individuals.” His vision for the ODEI includes creating partnerships and programs that ensure every resident feels seen, heard, and valued.
Brenda Martin, the host of Inside Huntsville, has been a longstanding advocate for diversity and inclusion in the city. Having served as the City’s Multicultural Affairs Director before Dr. Barbour, she continues to spotlight initiatives that promote unity and understanding among Huntsville’s diverse populations.
