Two Huntsville police officers were seriously injured early Sunday morning when a woman struck a police vehicle while she was transporting two other people, including her child, police said.
The incident began early Sunday morning, Sgt. Chris Jackson said.
Shortly after midnight, officers conducted a stop on Kiara Shardae Burnett, 24, at the intersection of Pulaski Pike and Poplar Avenue.
Jackson said Burnett had an active warrant for a probation violation.
Both officers, whose names were not released, had serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to the hospital.
There were two people inside Burnett’s vehicle, one being her child.
Both were able to exit the vehicle as she was attempting to flee. They were not injured.
Burnett left the scene, and a vehicle chase ensued that ended at the intersection of Jordan Lane and Mastin Lake Road, when police said Burnett crashed into an unoccupied vehicle in a service station parking lot.
She was arrested and charged with two counts of first degree assault, leaving the scene of an accident with death or personal injury, felony attempting to elude, third degree domestic violence, reckless endangerment, second degree marijuana possession and two counts of violating probation.
Burnett is being held in the Madison County Jail on $117,000 bond, according to jail records.
