AAMU’s Event Center joins buildings across the nation lighting up green for Mental Health Month: https://www.mhanational. org/…/green-lights-for- mental… The AAMU Department of Psychology & Counseling is mark- ing May with an Address Your Stress Campaign. It’s hosting fun, relaxing and informative events all week

This May more than 100 landmarks across the nation will be lit in green, the color of mental health awareness, to mark the beginning of Mental Health Month and encourage the public to learn about their well-being and take a mental health screening.

Half of Americans will experience a mental health condition in their lifetime, and 1 in 5 will experience a mental health condition in a given year. It is important that those experiencing early symptoms of a mental health condition know what to look for and get screened.

This year’s Mental Health Month theme is Look Around, Look Within. The campaign focuses on how mental health is impacted by surroundings, including housing, the home environment, neighborhoods and towns, and the outdoors and nature. Mental Health America (MHA) has a full downloadable toolkit of free educational resources to help people understand and change their surroundings in favor of their well-being.

Since 1949, MHA, its 141 affiliates, and countless others have observed May as Mental Health Month by reaching out to millions of people to spread the word that mental health is something everyone should care about. Mental Health Month is a time to raise awareness, educate the public about mental health conditions and the importance of prevention and early intervention, reduce the stigma that surrounds these conditions, and encourage screening. MHA offers free, anonymous, clinically validated screenings at MHAScreening.org.

Members of the public are asked to post photos of landmarks lighting up green on Instagram and tag @MentalHealthAmerica.
