Baltimore County Public Schools dedicates American Education Week 2021 (November 15 – 19) to celebrating Education Heroes – which includes everyone who supports students’ academic and social-emotional growth.
The school system will encourage Team BCPS members to share on social media favorite learning memories, messages of appreciation, and updates on what students are learning. The hashtag for the week will be #bcpsAEW.

Monday, November 15, from 7 – 8 p.m.
This National Alliance on Mental Illness presentation will assist parents supporting their children’s mental health. Offered in partnership with Parent University. Register online.
> Virtual Lunch & Learn: Rising Up – Overcoming Adverse Childhood Experiences and Enhancing Resilience
Tuesday, November 16, at 12:30 p.m.
This Parent University presentation will explore the Adverse Childhood Experiences study, how trauma impacts the brain, and how to enhance resilience in children. Register online.
> Virtual Lunch & Learn: Supporting the Social-Emotional Needs of Your Child and Yourself
Wednesday, November 17, at 12:30 p.m.
This Parent University presentation will introduce Conscious Discipline, a social-emotional support program used in all BCPS elementary schools, and it will share strategies for making deeper connections with your children and other loved ones. Register online.
> Virtual Lunch & Learn: Internet Crimes Against Children
Thursday, November 18, at 12:30 p.m.
An Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force representative will share crime trends involving computer and cell phone applications. Presented by Parent University. Register online.

Parent University invites parents/caregivers to participate in the annual review of Policy and Rule 1270: Parent and Family Engagement and the Title I District Level Family Engagement Plan by registering online for one of following virtual meetings:

Latest World Culture in Context presentation
World Culture in Context is a series of live musical and cultural performances broadcast from around the globe as a unique learning opportunity for BCPS students, families, and community members. A presentation on Friday, November 19, at 9:45 a.m., will feature Rebolu, an Afro-Colombian group now based in New York. The event, which is open to all, will be presented on Zoom. The series is produced by the BCPS Department of Social Studies, in collaboration with the BCPS Department of Career and Technical Education and Fine Arts and the Baltimore-based Creative Alliance.
Special Observances – Education Support Professionals and Substitute Educators
BCPS will celebrate two national observances during the week: Education Support Professionals Day on Wednesday, Nov. 17, and Substitute Educators Day on Friday, Nov. 19.
Celebrate Your School Day
The week will conclude on Friday, Nov. 19, with Celebrate Your School Day. Students, staff, and even graduates are invited to participate by wearing school colors and sharing messages of school pride.
In addition, some schools are hosting their own events, such as reading/math showcases, virtual talent shows, classroom drop-ins for parents/caregivers, and online book fairs.
