Police arrested Hayward Jenkins hours after the fatal attack at a Milwaukee-area hotel following a tip from family members.

Nationwide — A shocking act of violence has left a Wisconsin community grieving after a 38-year-old man was accused of brutally killing his own mother following a heated dispute.

Authorities say Hayward Jenkins allegedly attacked his 66-year-old mother, Cheryl Jenkins, inside her home, striking her multiple times with a wooden baseball bat. The disturbing incident unfolded after an argument reportedly centered around silver coins.

Police were called to the residence around 8 a.m. last Tuesday after Cheryl’s fiancé discovered her lying face down on the floor. Jenkins, who had stayed overnight, had already fled the scene.

Investigators say a blood-stained baseball bat was found on top of the victim, and surveillance footage later captured Jenkins leaving the apartment complex around 6 a.m. and boarding a bus.

Law enforcement tracked him to the Potawatomi Casino Hotel, where he was arrested just hours later after family members alerted authorities.

According to the criminal complaint, Jenkins admitted to striking his mother, later expressing remorse and acknowledging he was “wrong.”

He now faces a charge of first-degree intentional homicide and is being held on a $300,000 bond as the investigation continues.
