Girls across Huntsville are invited to lace up their sneakers and build confidence one step at a time as registration opens for the 2026 Girls on the Run season.

Huntsville Parks & Recreation is encouraging girls in grades 3–5 to participate in the nationally recognized program, which blends physical activity with social-emotional learning. Designed to empower young girls, Girls on the Run helps participants identify their inner strength, imagine their possibilities, and confidently stand up for themselves and others.

The upcoming season will run from March 2 through May 18, with sessions held Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. To support continued growth, teams will be offered at both the Fern Bell Recreation Center and the Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Recreation Center. Each location is limited to 15 participants to ensure a supportive and engaging environment.

Returning as one of the program’s coaches is Tania Jessie, Wellness and Fitness Programmer at the Johnson Legacy Center.

“Year after year, our trained coaches lead with an open heart and express joy, optimism, and gratitude through our words and actions to inspire girls to recognize their individual strengths,” Jessie said. “The curriculum is amazing. Some lessons include being a good friend, communication, and positive self-talk — all designed to transform and strengthen the next generation of girls.”

In addition to weekly sessions, participants will have the opportunity to participate in a celebratory end-of-season 5K, recognizing their physical and personal growth throughout the program.

The cost to participate is $20 per child. Registration is open through February 16 and is available via the Girls on the Run North Alabama website.

Girls on the Run continues to serve as a powerful reminder that confidence, courage, and community can be built — one stride at a time.
