On Dec. 1, longtime AFRO General and Circulation Manager Edgar Brookins, 74, died at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Since his passing, social media tributes have been pouring in, as well as personal reflections sent to this reporter and AFRO staff.

“Farewell to Brother Edgar Brookins! He lived and Omega life to the fullest,” William Gordner wrote on Twitter, in reply to the AFRO’s breaking of the news of Brookins’ passing.

“Mr. Brookins is a champion in so many ways.  A huge loss to the world.  Rest In Peace my friend,” Charles Perkins commented on the AFRO’s Facebook.

“He was definitely loved and is definitely missed,” former longtime AFRO employee Mia Hayes Aguilar wrote.  “Rest peacefully my friend and ‘forever boss’ (as he was jokingly named.’

The AFRO is enjoying learning about people’s personal relationships with Brookins and would love to share those reflections with the masses, as the publication continues to celebrate the life and legacy of a dedicated employee.  Brookins, affectionately known as Mr. D.C., touched the lives of many in the D.M.V. and nationwide.  For that reason, we are asking for people to send their brief reflections on Brookins’ life- 25-100 words- to editor@afro.com and mgreen@afro.com.  We are also requesting photos with the full names of those featured in the photograph, to feature in the paper.

Thank you for your continued support as Brookins’ family, friends and the AFRO mourn the loss of a good and faithful soldier and servant.
