Redstone Arsenal has welcomed a new senior enlisted leader to its U.S. Army Security Assistance Command (USASAC), the team responsible for managing the nation’s global military sales and support network.

In a formal change-of-responsibility ceremony on Monday, Command Sgt. Maj. Michael S. Cordery assumed duties as USASAC’s senior enlisted adviser, following the departure of Command Sgt. Maj. Stephen A. Burnley, according to a news release shared by Redstone Arsenal and reported by AL.com.

Brig. Gen. Allen Pepper, commanding general of USASAC, praised Cordery’s leadership and potential impact on the mission.

“He will not only meet the challenges he finds here but overcome them,” Pepper said. “I look forward to him quickly gaining the confidence of the whole team; he already has mine.”

Originally from Baltimore, Cordery joined the Army in 1998 as a military policeman. Over the course of his 26-year career, he has held key leadership positions at every level—including team leader, first sergeant, battalion and brigade command sergeant major. He most recently served at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico before his assignment to Redstone.

Cordery steps into a vital role at a time of continued global engagement. USASAC currently manages over 6,000 foreign military sales cases across nearly 150 countries, totaling $280 billion. In fiscal year 2024 alone, the command secured $42.8 billion in new business.

Cordery emphasized the strategic importance of strengthening global partnerships through military support.

“Training and equipping our partner and ally nations makes our relationships stronger, protects their nations, and is a shining example of deterrence which ultimately protects our nation and our warfighters,” he said.
