Huntsville Police are encouraging residents to take simple precautions after noticing an uptick in car break-ins and stolen items.
From January through June 2025, there were 435 reported car break-ins, compared to 385 during the same period in 2024. Between April and June, 46 firearms were reported stolen from vehicles. Reports also show Mondays have the highest number of reported car break-ins than any other day.
“Every break-in affects real people and families,” Chief Kirk Giles said. “By taking simple steps like removing belongings, locking doors and staying alert, we can prevent many of these crimes.”
As part of its “Lock, Secure, Protect” initiative, HPD urges resident to:
- Remove valuables in plain sight
- Lock doors and windows
- Stay alert to your surroundings
Despite the increase in vehicle break-ins, Huntsville continues to see steady progress in reducing crime in other categories. Police officials credit strong partnerships with residents and community groups for helping keep neighborhoods safe.
