Two Birmingham women are facing serious trafficking charges following a major drug raid that resulted in the seizure of 28 pounds of methamphetamine, along with cash and firearms.

Authorities said Jessica Yvonne Moore, 39, and Destiney Renee Jones, 35, were arrested after a joint operation conducted by the Homewood Police Department and agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

The raid was carried out on Dec. 19 in the 1500 block of Warrior Road in Birmingham. Investigators reported that the operation stemmed from an earlier drug case originating in Homewood.

In addition to the large quantity of methamphetamine, officers confiscated approximately $13,000 in cash and four firearms, including one gun that had been reported stolen.

Both women have been charged with drug trafficking and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Moore also faces an additional charge of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, according to authorities.

Jail records show Moore was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on Dec. 20 and released on Dec. 29. Jones was also booked on Dec. 20 and released on bond on Dec. 24.

Homewood Sgt. Mark Trippe said federal charges are also pending in the case, indicating the investigation may expand beyond local prosecution.

Law enforcement officials continue to emphasize the ongoing effort to combat large-scale drug distribution in the Birmingham metro area.
