Adrienne Reid, 33, has been charged with capital murder and abuse of a corpse after authorities say she placed her 2-year-old daughter, Genesis Nova Reid, in a duffel bag and discarded it in a dumpster in Enterprise, Alabama.

A heartbreaking case in Enterprise, Alabama, has left communities across the state grieving and demanding justice after authorities announced that 2-year-old Genesis Nova Reid was killed on Christmas Day. Her mother, 33-year-old Adrienne Reid, has now been charged with capital murder and abuse of a corpse, according to law enforcement officials.

Genesis was originally reported missing around 3:10 a.m. on February 16, when her mother told investigators she checked on the toddler and found her gone from their home with the door open. However, investigators later determined the child had not been seen since Christmas night.

Police say surveillance video shows Adrienne Reid rolling a duffel bag toward a dumpster around 11:30 p.m. on Christmas Day. Authorities believe Genesis’s body was placed in that bag. The child’s remains have not yet been recovered.

Enterprise Police Chief Michael Moore described the case as deeply painful for the community. “We have reached the heartbreaking and horrific conclusion that her mother… the one that should have been there to keep her safe, willfully murdered Genesis,” Moore said.

Investigators believe the dumpster was emptied on December 26, with its contents compacted and transported to a landfill. Coffee County Sheriff Scott Byrd said crews are preparing to search a specific area within the landfill. “I’m going to ask the public for patience,” Byrd said. “We are determined to find her.”

District Attorney James Tarbox said prosecutors will seek the death penalty if Reid is convicted. “The evidence shows that Adrienne Reid killed her 2-year-old daughter,” Tarbox said.
