Alabama A&M doubles teams celebrate after sweeping all three courts to take an early lead against North Alabama. Arnav Pathange competes at No. 1 singles, earning the Bulldogs’ lone point in Sunday’s matchup.

THE HILL — The Alabama A&M men’s tennis team showed early dominance but ultimately fell 4-1 to North Alabama in a hard-fought non-conference matchup Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs came out strong in doubles play, sweeping all three courts to take an early lead and set the tone. The duo of Agustin Marquez and Arnay Pathange secured a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Juwan Bae and Yin Chih Lan followed with another 6-4 win at No. 2. At the No. 3 position, Tasso Moreira and Eduardo De Benedictis Andretti completed the sweep with a 6-5 victory, giving Alabama A&M momentum heading into singles competition.

However, North Alabama responded with a surge in singles play, turning the tide of the match. The Lions captured wins at the No. 2, No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6 positions, all in straight sets, to secure the overall victory.

Alabama A&M’s lone point came from Arnav Pathange at No. 1 singles, who delivered a standout performance with a 6-3, 6-1 win, showcasing resilience despite the team’s overall setback.

Despite the loss, the Bulldogs’ strong doubles performance highlighted the team’s chemistry and competitive edge early in the match.

Looking ahead, Alabama A&M will return home to The Hill to face Cumberland University on Wednesday, March 18, with first serve scheduled for 1 p.m.
