The Hon. Martha Lynn Sherrod, Louis Crews Classic Chairman announces the Bulldog and North Alabama communities will celebrate the Annual Louis Crews Classic beginning with the Coach’s Breakfast on Thursday, September 7, 2023, to be held in the Earnest Knight Center on the historic campus of Alabama Agricultural & Mechanical University. The Louis Crews Classic is named for the coach widely credited as Alabama A & M ‘s winningest head

football coach. Coach Crews, an Alabama native and 1941 Graduate of A & M College was a member of the first four-year A & M graduating class. Coach Crews played football for the Bulldogs from 1937 to 1940, playing quarterback and running back. He scored the first ever A & M touchdown in the Magic City Classic. As the Bulldogs head football coach, he won five (5) SIAC championships and compiled a record of 94- 52-3. He also coached the first A & M baseball team and led the baseball team to its first and only conference championship. Coach Crews has been inducted into the Alabama A & M and the SIAC Halls of Fame.

The Hill Project is the signature event for the Louis Crews Classic. The entire 9th grade academy from Lee High School will visit the campus on Friday, September 8, 2023, for a day of motivational and college preparation activities. The Lee High Class of 2027 will return to the campus each year throughout their high school journey for accelerated college and work force preparedness. The project is designed to promote increased high school graduation rates and to encourage post-secondary education.

The current Alabama A & M student body will participate in a Day Party and Pep Rally on Friday, September 8, 2023. The Annual Louis Crews Classic football game will be played Saturday, September 9, 2023, in the Louis Crews Stadium against the Lane College Dragons from Jackson, Tennessee. Game Day Grand Marshalls will include former Crews assistant coaches Gene Bright, Branski Towns and Curtis Harris. Very Special Guest will be former Crews Players,
