Collinsville Police Chief Stephen Malone was arrested Feb. 1, 2026, in Nashville on an aggravated assault charge, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Collinsville Police Chief Stephen Malone was arrested early Sunday morning in Nashville on an aggravated assault charge following an alleged domestic violence incident, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

Malone, who was appointed police chief of the Collinsville Police Department in 2025, was taken into custody after officers responded to a reported assault at approximately 3 a.m. at a residence on 12th Avenue South.

According to the arrest affidavit, Malone was visiting a woman he was dating when a verbal argument broke out over allegations of infidelity. The victim told police the argument escalated into physical violence.

“At some point during the argument, the suspect began to hammer strike the victim in the face with his closed fist,” the police report states. Officers said Malone also grabbed the woman by the throat and slammed her down multiple times.

Investigators reported observing scratch marks on the victim’s neck, as well as bruising on her knees and cheek. The woman told officers she scratched Malone’s face in self-defense in an effort to get him away.

Police said Malone repeatedly told officers the victim was intoxicated and needed help, and that he did not want her to get into trouble. He was read his Miranda rights and agreed to speak with investigators.

According to the affidavit, Malone claimed the victim attacked him and broke his necklace but did not explain how she sustained her injuries.

“Due to the victim’s statements aligning with injuries and observations, the defendant was determined to be the primary aggressor,” the affidavit states.

Malone was booked into jail and later released Sunday. It was not immediately clear whether he has been placed on administrative leave by the City of Collinsville. City officials have not publicly commented on the arrest.

The case remains under investigation.
