Taylor’s Chapel P. B. Church held a special celebration of Black History Month and a recognition of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) on Sunday, February 26, 2023. The service was held at the church’s 10:15 a.m., regular worship service. The attendances at the service on Sunday were encouraged to wear apparel representing their favorite HBCU. The maroon and white of Alabama A&M University was the most dominant HBCU represented with Stillman College, Alabama State University and Tuskegee University among other HBCUs represented. Guest speaker for the Sunday worship was Elder Dr. Eugene Edwards, Associate Minister at St. Rebecca P. B. Church. His sermon title was “Leftovers”, scriptural reference was John 6:9, 12-13, and I Samuel 17: 40, 49. The Aeolians of Oakwood University were scheduled to provide music but were not able to attend. Taylor’s Chapel Pastoral Candidate Elder Donald Lowery presided at the worship service. A fellowship meal was served in the fellowship hall following the worship service. Taylor’s Church celebrated their 119th Church Anniversary on Sunday, February 19, 2023. Elder William T. Taylor founded the church in February 1904 and served as pastor for 54 years. The church’s most recent pastor, the late Elder James Lane, Sr., served as Pastor from July 2, 1965 to July 9, 2021, a total of 56 years.
