After a dog was found in a trash bag and later euthanized in Mobile County, PETA has offered a $5,000 reward for tips leading to the arrest of the individual(s) responsible for harming the animal.
On March 1, local residents in Grand Bay found a grey pit bull lying on the side of the road in a trash bag. The dog, named Chance by rescuers, was still alive but was suffering after being shot in the head.
According to PETA, veterinarians determined that Chance was shot 10 days prior to being found. Also, X-rays showed a bullet was lodged in his brain and he was affected by heartworms, skin infections, and puncture wounds.
Chance was euthanized on March 4 due to the injuries he was afflicted by.
“Someone out there shot this horribly neglected dog in the head, discarded him like trash, and left him to languish in agony for days before his suffering was finally ended,” PETA Sr. Vice President Colleen O’Brien said.
“PETA is urging anyone with information to come forward immediately before the individual responsible hurts or kills someone else.”
Along with PETA’s $5,000 reward, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office previously announced a reward of $2,500 making the total $7,500,
Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch has called the individual responsible for harming Chance a, “piece of trash”, and said he is in favor stiffer penalties for acts of animal cruelty.
