Family and friends are mourning the death of a young Jefferson County man killed in a weekend shooting.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim Monday as Jaden Rashad Jones. He was 20 and lived in Birmingham.

“He was a loving, hardworking, playful young man who only wanted to be an example for his younger siblings,’’ said his grieving mother, Jessica Williams.

Sheriff’s deputies were working a traffic crash just before 3 p.m. Saturday in the area 23rd and 25th Avenues Northeast.

Spokesman Henry Irby said while that investigation was ongoing, a different vehicle pulled up at the scene seeking help. Jones was in the passenger’s seat.

Center Point Fire and Rescue transported him to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:26 p.m.

Irby said the wreck was not related to the shooting. No additional details have been released.

Jones was a 2022 graduate of Center Point High School where he played football.

“He was my first born and to know that he is no longer with us is hurting us all,’’ his mother said.

“No one can say a bad thing about my son,’’ Williams said. “He didn’t deserve what happened to him.”
