A student at a junior high school in Huntsville was arrested after they allegedly tried to bring two handguns to school on Tuesday, authorities said.
The weapon detection system used by Huntsville City Schools alerted McNair Junior High School that a gun was in the student’s backpack, a Huntsville Police Department spokesman told WAFF.

Efforts to reach Huntsville police were not immediately successful.
A search of the student’s backpack turned up two handguns.
