Madison police are attempting to discover the identity of a nude man who law enforcement officers say attempted to steal a patrol car Thursday afternoon after a string of incidents along a busy highway.
The incident happened at about 1:35 p.m., when police from Madison and Huntsville responded to multiple 911 calls in an area on Alabama 72 West and Promenade Point Parkway.
Calls from Madison Bowling Center, Burger King, Walmart, and Mister Car Wash reported a nude man trying to enter people’s vehicles, breaking windows and assaulting people. Callers also reported the man was possibly dragged by a vehicle after trying to enter it while it was occupied.
Madison police arrived on the scene and made contact with the man on Promenade Pointe Parkway.
According to police, the unidentified man attempted to enter and steal an officer’s patrol car, and the officer used force to detain the man.
Huntsville police are investigating the alleged crimes that occurred prior to officers arriving.
Madison police arrested the man for the attempted theft of the police vehicle and other alleged public order crimes. He was transported to Huntsville Hospital for medical treatment and will be jailed upon his release.
Police said the man’s identity was still being verified.
