Daniels is pledging Community-Centric Leadership and Positive Change

Alabama House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels announces his candidacy for the newly redrawn 2nd Congressional District seat, outlining a vision for positive change and community-focused leadership in the wake of a federal court’s mandate for district realignment. Daniels, a graduate of Alabama A&M University, brings a wealth of experience and commitment to addressing socio- economic challenges.

Alabama House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels has declared his candidacy for the newly redrawn 2nd Congressional District seat, a move that follows the recent decision by a federal three-judge panel to reshape the U.S. House map for Alabama in preparation for the 2024 elections. Currently representing House District 53, which encompasses the Huntsville area, Daniels has held this position since his election in 2014.

The court-mandated redrawing of Alabama’s congressional districts stipulated the inclusion of a second district with a majority or near-majority Black voting-age population. Responding to this development, Daniels, a graduate of Bullock County High School and an alumnus of Alabama A&M University with both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education, released a statement outlining his commitment to addressing critical issues within the district.

“Growing up in South Alabama was an important foundation in shaping me for the man I have become. My family, faith, and community all played a critical role. I want to ensure strong schools, safe communities, accessible and affordable healthcare, and good-paying jobs are available here,” Daniels emphasized in his announcement. He expressed a determination to tackle the issue of high poverty rates in several counties throughout the second district, stating, “We can no longer allow counties throughout the second district to have some of the highest poverty rates in the United States. Together we can change that statistic, and it’s one of the reasons I am in this race.”

Daniels, who assumed the role of House Minority Leader in 2017, brings a wealth of experience and a strong educational background to his candidacy. His focus on community development and commitment to addressing socioeconomic challenges within the second district underscore his candidacy’s core principles. As the race for the newly configured congressional seat unfolds, Daniels positions himself as a candidate dedicated to fostering positive change and advocating for the diverse needs of the community he represents.
