Cockeysville, MD – Broadmead is honored to announce that our organization has been awarded a Level II Accreditation by The ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program and The Morton Arboretum for achieving particular standards of professional practices deemed important for arboreta and botanic gardens. The ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program is the only global initiative to officially recognize arboreta at various levels of development, capacity, and professionalism. Broadmead is also now recognized as an accredited arboretum in the Morton Register of Arboreta, a database of the world’s arboreta and gardens dedicated to woody plants.
Level 2 accreditation requires an arboretum to have at least 100 different species of trees, a paid arborist or horticulturalist, an educational program on trees, and a collections policy. The “arboretum” designation requires conserving, maintaining and protecting the community’s tree canopy, fostering a sense of stewardship and caring for the Earth. Broadmead’s arboretum is overseen by its horticulturalist, Julia Craddock, and by its VP of Sustainability, Gina Mathias, and aided by a soon-to-be appointed Arboretum Group made up of residents, team members, and trustees.
“Broadmead is incredibly honored to receive accreditation from ArbNet,” says Gina Mathias, VP of Sustainability. “It is not just a recognition of our efforts; it’s a testament to our commitment to sustainability and the collective hard work of every member of our team. We are honored to lead by example in making a positive impact on our planet.”
Broadmead’s bucolic 94 acre arboretum is intended to contribute to a flourishing landscape, offering its residents and visitors a sense of serenity, peace, and connection to nature, as well as setting an example for other communities.
