THE HILL | Three Alabama A&M women’s basketball student-athletes earned Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) weekly awards over the past two weeks of competition. In the seventh week of play, senior guard Kalia Walker earned SWAC Player of the week while senior Alisha Wilson won Impact Player of the Week. Kourtney Rittenberry received Player of the Week for week eight, the conference announced Thursday afternoon.

Walker earned a career-high 30 points during week seven’s contest at North Alabama. Her contributions proved critical in the historic win that solidified the program’s best preseason start in the Division I era and was the first time the Bulldogs defeated the Lions in Florence. Wilson, the SWAC’s Defensive Player of the Year earned her 1000th career rebound in the game against UNA.

The Bulldogs also saw action in the Tulane Holiday Tournament during week seven, where both Walker and Wilson led the team in scoring in the first game against the host school. Wilson also led AAMU in rebounds and steals, with 10 and four respectively. In the second day of play, Wilson earned her third double-double of the season with a season high 17 points and 15 rebounds and stole five balls in the victory over the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears.

In week eight, Rittenberry led the Maroon and White against Southeastern Conference (SEC) opponent Vanderbilt University. The senior logged 15 points, three rebounds and two steals in the contest. Rittenberry holds the second most number of points for the Bulldogs (just behind Walker) and second most rebounds and steals (just behind Wilson).

The Bulldogs will face the UAPB Golden Lions on Saturday in the first game of a Bulldog double header. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. with live streaming available via Bulldogs All-Access.
