Girl Scout Cadette Troop 10729, Seniors and Ambassadors Troops, at Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church had their second annual “Pamper Me Pretty” Honor Event for “Women of Color with Cancer”. The purpose of this event is to let the honorees know these young ladies were there to listen to them, see them, and pamper them for an hour or two. The Girl Scouts, with the assistance from local vendors and churches, made lotion and lip balm (without harsh chemicals), bible verse coasters, keyrings, and bracelets for the participants. Professional beauticians and make-up artists assisted these honorees with a makeover, hand massage, and customized wig(s). The Girl Scouts Cadettes collaborated with Union Chapel’s Cancer Ministry Coordinator, Joyce Hampton, who spoke to the ladies about her personal experience. The honorees told their stories or talked to other cancer survivors. The Scouts provided lunch, a photo shoot, and a care package to each honoree. This year the Cadettes collected enough items to mail packages to the ladies who could not attend but expressed their appreciation through social media posts.
