Being a doctor in Huntsville, it turns out, can be quite lucrative.

Medical doctors and healthcare practitioners of different types pack the top 5 highest paying jobs in the Rocket City, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Going by median hourly estimated wage, physicians took the top spot on Huntsville’s list, meaning half of physicians earn more than $111 per hour. For comparison, it would take some of the lowest earning workers on this list – positions like substitute teachers, waitstaff and bus drivers – about 11 hours to earn as much.

Family doctors (No. 2, $97.39 per hour), dentists (No. 3, $96.75) and nurse anesthetists (No. 4, $86.62) also made the top five.

After that, the list gets a little more diverse. Chief executives rounded out the top 5, with median hourly wages of about $82.

But none of the jobs in the top five are very common in Huntsville. That changes with No. 6.

There are nearly 1,300 architectural and engineering managers in the Rocket City – people who manage the thousands of engineers who work there. Those managers saw a median wage of $76.15 per hour. There are about four times more people in those roles in Huntsville than the national average.

Physical scientists, sales engineers, lawyers and computer and information systems managers round out the top 10. But the list goes on – you can search for your field, or hundreds of others, in the list above.
