A movie will premiere next month on Lifetime based on the story surrounding last year’s manhunt for escaped inmate Casey White and Lauderdale County jailer Vicky White.
“Bad Romance: The Vicky White Story” will air Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. CST on Lifetime.
The movie stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, of “Reno 911!” and “Bridesmaids,” as Vicky White and Rossif Sutherland, son of Donald and half-brother of Kiefer, as Casey White.
McLendon-Covey is the executive producer, along with Tom Patricia, Glady Gonzalez and Howard Braunstein.
Stan Brooks is directing from a script by Gregory Small and Richard Blaney, according to Deadline.
The network’s description of the movie:
“Every day for divorced (Vicky White) is like the movie Groundhog Day – mundane and every day just like the previous. But when new prisoner Casey White is brought to her facility, the two develop a secret infatuation. Vicky gives Casey special attention, believing he’s the only man to see her the way she wants to be seen. But when Casey’s inevitable transfer to a lengthy prison sentence approaches, Vicky decides to take desperate action. Risking everything, Vicky manages to break Casey out of jail and takes him on the run, eluding authorities on an eleven-day dash for freedom. For Vicky, even the probable tragedy ahead of them is worth the chance to live life fully once more.”
Another movie, “Prisoner of Love” debuted on Tubi, the Fox Entertainment-owned free streaming service, last year.
Casey White was in state prison when he confessed in 2020 to the 2015 death of Connie Ridgeway of Rogersville. While in the Lauderdale County Jail awaiting trial, White met Vicky White, the jail officer, who was not related to him.
On April 29, 2022, she slipped him out of the jail, touching off a dramatic 11-day manhunt that ended in Evansville, Ind. during a high-speed pursuit. Vicky White took her own life as law enforcement closed in.
Rick Singleton, Lauderdale County Sheriff at the time, said Casey White and Vicky White had a jailhouse romance. In June, Casey White said in court that he “loved Vicky and I wouldn’t drag her name through the mud for anyone in this courtroom.” White said she was the first person to “give me a hug in six years.”
In July, a judge granted a request by prosecutors to drop the capital murder charge against White in Ridgeway’s death.
Casey White in June pleaded guilty to felony murder after Vicky White took her own life as law enforcement closed in to capture them in Evansville, Indiana, on May 9, 2022. He faced murder charges because Vicky White’s death occurred during the commission of a felony.
He was sentenced to life in prison, to be served with the 75-year sentence he was already facing.
