A physical education teacher at a Tuscaloosa County school is on leave following his arrest at the school on Friday.
James Steven Cox, 40, was arrested at Lloyd Wood Education Center – a PK-12 school in Northport – about 1:30 p.m. Friday. He is charged with public intoxication.

School was in session Friday.
Cox was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail with bond set at $300.
The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is ongoing. No additional information has been released.
Cox is on leave.
Tuscaloosa County Schools Superintendent Keri Johnson sent this statement to families, faculty and staff:
“We wanted to reach out to you to provide information about a situation involving one of our employees. James Cox, an employee of the Tuscaloosa County School System, was arrested at Lloyd Wood Education Center Friday and charged with public intoxication. Because of laws that govern employee privacy, we cannot publicly discuss details of a legal investigation involving an employee. However, it is important for our families and community to know that Mr. Cox is on administrative leave, and TCSS will cooperate fully with law enforcement in their investigation.
“While we are limited in what we can discuss about an investigation involving an employee, please reach out to your school administrator if you ever have any questions or concerns to express.”
