The students of Digital Harbor High School saw first-hand that hard work pays off when their principal Dr. Taiisha Swinton-Buck received a special surprise on NBC’s morning show TODAY.

The network’s latest series, called “Once in a Lifetime,” celebrates change-makers who are doing remarkable work in their communities, and Swinton-Buck’s recent achievement of being named Maryland’s Principal of the Year 2021 caught their attention.

Swinton-Buck, who is just in her third year as principal of Digital Harbor, has found a way to connect with the students that is both creative and entertaining. They all collaborate on Tik Tok routines that has created a special bond with the students and an overall sense of community around campus.

That’s why TODAY’s Al Roker visited Swinton-Buck and 100 students from Digital Harbor on Sept. 20 at M&T Bank Stadium. Roker came bearing gifts in the form of brand new Dell laptops for every student at the school along with free Comcast internet service for a year.

“It means everything to us,” Swinton-Buck told TODAY.
