Newsweek has selected Huntsville International Airport (HSV) as the top small airport in the United States.

As part of its Reader’s Choice Awards, the news magazine went looking for airports known for “easier travel experiences with less hassle and shorter lines.”

HSV headed a list that included airports in Allentown, Penn.; Seattle, Wash.; Sonoma County, Calif., and Bangor, Me.

“For travelers to northern Alabama or southern Tennessee, Huntsville International Airport (HSV) offers a convenient travel hub,” the magazine stated.

“It’s large enough to serve nearly a million and a half passengers each year with nonstop service to 14 destinations while small enough to provide a stress-free experience. Three dining options and an outdoor pet park keep everyone refreshed on the journey.”

The final list was determined by Newsweek editors, with feedback from a panel of five advisors who write on travel.

HSV broke a record for travel in 2023, with more than 1.47 million passengers last year, just edging out a mark of 1.445 million set in 2019.
