The Alabama A&M University Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) will continue its Bulldog Parent University program for the 2024-25 academic year. This initiative, designed to help families of first-year students, offers a series of informative webinars aimed at empowering parents to better support their students as they navigate University life.

Hosted by OMA with support from various campus departments, Bulldog Parent University provides crucial insights for first-year families and students adjusting to the challenges of life away from home. The webinars equip parents with tools to stay engaged and help their students thrive at Alabama A&M University.

“Last year’s program was a great success,” said OMA Executive Director Dr. Pamela Little. “We received wonderful feedback from parents who felt more connected to their students’ experiences and appreciated the resources to help them adapt to life on campus.” The next webinar in the series, “Student Engagement and Involvement,” will take place on Monday, September 16, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. CST via Zoom. This session will cover topics such as leadership and involvement opportunities, mentorship, academic and professional development, and empowerment strategies.

Research shows the importance of ongoing parental support during the college transition. A new study, which highlights Bulldog Parent University, finds first-year students who maintained regular communication with their parents had healthier emotional responses to the challenges of university life, including managing stress and anxiety.

Parents interested in participating in Bulldog Parent University can register by Friday, September 13, at 5 p.m.
