Longtime higher education administrator and financial executive to serve as CFO
Alabama A&M University has selected Carlton Spellman, a longtime higher education senior administrator and financial executive, to serve as Vice President for Business and Finance/CFO, effective June 1, 2023.
Spellman has served in key senior fiscal affairs positions at several universities over a 30-year span. More specifically, from 2017-2022, Spellman served as Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance at Fayetteville State University, where he was responsible for the strategic management and leadership of 14 distinct units.
He also served in administrative roles relating to finance and administration at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke to include Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Administration; Interim Vice-Chancellor for Finance and Administration; and Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Administration from 2014-2017. The Saint Leo University graduate served in various U.S. Marine Corps positions of increasing responsibility from 1984-2007.
