An Alabama town known for going all-out for the holidays was recently recognized as one of the “cutest Christmas towns in the South” by Southern Living.
Cullman, Ala., earned a spot on Southern Living’s list of cutest Southern Christmas towns thanks to its 40-foot-tall Christmas pyramid — the country’s tallest — that lights up the night during the holiday season.
The Weihnachtspyramide, which was created to celebrate the city of Cullman’s German roots, is a moving carousel-like decoration made from wood. Smaller versions are typically placed on tables or hung from ceilings, according to It’s a Southern Thing. The fully-functioning Weihnachtspyramide is set up at the Cullman Christkindlmarkt, a one-of-a-kind Christmas market that also offers an ice skating rink, hot mulled wine, a life-size nativity scene, shopping from local artisans and plenty of German fare.
Other Southern towns that made the list include Richmond, Texas; Bristol, Tenn.; Canton, Miss.; Lutcher, La., and more.
