Technology has made single people everywhere accessible at the click of a button. Love is available online with the help of dating websites and apps that make the selection process as simple as a swift right or left swipe.
Jumping back into the dating game after a long period can feel daunting, but with some preparation and a positive mindset, you can make the process more enjoyable.
Here are some steps to help you get started:
1. Reflect on your past experiences: Take some time to reflect on your past relationships and what you learned from them. Consider the qualities you are looking for in a partner and the values that are important to you. This reflection will help you gain clarity and set realistic expectations for your future dating experiences.
2. Work on self-improvement: Use this period to focus on self-improvement and personal growth. Engage in activities that make you happy and build your self-confidence. For me, this includes pursuing hobbies, exercising, learning new skills and taking care of my physical and mental well-being. Feeling good about yourself will make you more attractive and confident when you start dating again.
3. Set realistic goals: Understand that finding the right person takes time and patience. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to immediately find a long-term partner. Instead, focus on meeting new people, enjoying their company, getting a meal or two and seeing where things naturally progress. Set realistic goals for yourself when it comes to dating.
5. Update your online presence: If you choose to use online dating platforms, update your online profiles to reflect your current interests and personality. Choose recent and flattering photos. Craft a well-written, authentic profile that showcases your personality. Be honest about your intentions and what you’re looking for in a partner. Remember my earlier tips about pictures, pictures, pictures! Show the best version of yourself without filters and include full-body photos! No pets. No children. Just YOU!
6. Take it slow: When you start dating again, take it slow and don’t rush into a serious commitment. Enjoy the process of getting to know new people and allow relationships to develop naturally. Take the time to evaluate compatibility and make sure you’re both on the same page before moving forward.
7. Communicate: Open and honest communication is crucial in dating. Be clear about your intentions and expectations and actively listen to your potential partner. Effective communication helps build trust and ensures that both parties are on the same page.
8. Embrace rejection and stay positive: Rejection is a normal part of dating so it’s important not to take it personally. Not every connection will lead to a long-term relationship and that’s okay. Stay positive, learn from each experience and keep an open mind. The right person will come along when the time is right.
Remember, dating is a process, and it’s important to enjoy the journey. Be kind to yourself, have fun, and stay true to who you are; consider stepping outside of your comfort zone, maybe dating older, perhaps even YOUNGER!
This week, I am opting to go younger, 15 years younger in fact. A doctor. Wish me luck. Can’t wait to tell you all about it. And…good luck to you!
