Alabama U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville

Alabama U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville called Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a “dictator” and said Russian President Vladimir Putin only wants to prevent U.S. weapons from being in Ukraine.

Speaking on Steve Bannon’s “War Room,” Tuberville claimed Putin had no interest in Ukraine, saying, “Putin’s just kind of sitting back watching what’s going on, wondering, ‘Hey, when y’all going to come over and we’ll draw a line here.’”

New Hampshire Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen criticized Tuberville, stating it was alarming for a U.S. Senator on the Armed Services Committee to echo Russian propaganda instead of trusting U.S. intelligence.

It has been over two years since Putin invaded Ukraine, aiming to protect ethnic Russians, block Kyiv’s NATO membership, and maintain Russia’s influence.
