The search continues for a man accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend and then shooting four people a short time later.

Cortrell Burks, 50, is sought in the Sunday slaying of 40-year-old Erica Shontea Williams. The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office on Monday issued a murder warrant against him.

Williams was found stabbed to death about 6:30 p.m. Sunday when Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to her home in the 300 block of 20th Avenue N.E. in the Center Point area on a welfare check.

She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Burks is also accused of then going to the 800 block of 48th Street North in Birmingham and firing multiple shots into a home. Four people were wounded.

Money said investigators believe the home belonged to the Williams’ mother. The shooting victims’ injuries are not life-threatening.

Investigators continue to actively search for Burks. He is described as 6-feet, 2-inches tall and weighs about 250 pounds. He may have a shaved head and a grey beard, Money.

Burks was last seen driving a 2005 black Nissan Armada with Alabama license plate #1A0TBH8.

Anyone who sees Burks is asked to call 911 immediately. Deputies and Birmingham police are jointly working the investigation.
