Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University’s (AAMU) institutional accreditation was reaffirmed by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) at the recent SACSCOC Annual Meeting in Austin, TX on Dec. 10. The university completed the approximate 36-month process to include a compliance report, off-site and on-site peer reviews to gain this favorable decision.
A delegation of AAMU administrators attended the meeting to receive the news to include Dr. Daniel K. Wims, President; Dr John D. Jones, Provost; Mr. Carlton Spellman, CFO, Dr. Rhonda Moore Jackson, Accreditation Liaison; Dr. Jeanette Jones, Faculty Senate President; Dr. Bonnie Banks, QEP Director and Dr. Tau Kadhi, Dean of Graduate Studies.
“We are grateful to the Commission and peer reviewers as we do not take a positive outcome for granted,” said Dr. Daniel K. Wims. “The work performed by the University to reach this important milestone is commendable and indicates the dedication to the mission of the institution. I applaud all on our campus who worked diligently through this process and am very pleased with the decision. This decision is a testament to the leadership throughout the campus and the dedication of our faculty and staff. Special commendations to Provost Jones, our Reaffirmation Chair, and Dr. Rhonda Moore Jackson, our Accreditation Liaison, for their efforts, leadership and diligence.”
An important component of the reaffirmation process is the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). The QEP was presented by a committee of students and faculty, entitled “Advising to Advance Student Success.” This was a broad-based institutional endeavor designed to influence student success at the University.
“We are excited to complete this thorough review process and to have our accreditation reaffirmed for another 10 years which is critical to fulfilling our mission to the State of Alabama,” said Dr. John D. Jones, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “We thank all who made this successful effort possible and look forward to the expected outcomes of our QEP.”
SACSCOC accredits institutions that award associate, baccalaureate, master’s, or doctoral degrees, including those offered via distance and correspondence education, and direct assessment within these institutions. It serves as the common denominator of shared values and practices among its institutional members.
“We are thankful to our university community for their commitment to continuous improvement, which is a hallmark of the accreditation process.” said Dr. Rhonda Moore-Jackson, Accreditation Liaison.
Alabama A&M University has been continuously accredited by SACSCOC since 1963.
