The term hero often is associated with mythological or legendary figures of divine descent endowed with great strength and ability, immediately images of Spiderman, Superman, Black Panther, Wonder Woman and Batman come to mind.

Beyond the images of stars on the silver screen, parent’s community leaders and teachers can also fall into the category of hero, individuals who are admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievement and noble qualities.

Recently, the Oscar Austin Recognition Committee held its annual Day of Remembrance to honor a local hero, known more outside the state than within.
