Baltimore, MD (December 27, 2024) – The Baltimore City Democratic State Central Committee (BCDSCC) has been notified that Governor Wes Moore has appointed Senator Jill P. Carter (D-District 41) to serve on the Maryland State Board of Contract Appeals. As a result, Senator Carter has submitted her resignation and will leave her position as a Maryland State Senator effective January 3, 2025.
To fill a legislative vacancy in the Maryland General Assembly, the BCDSCC will begin the process of seeking interested candidates and meet within 30 days of the effective date of resignation to nominate a candidate for the Governor’s consideration.
The BCDSCC is now accepting resumes to fill the Senate vacancy in the 41st Legislative District. To be eligible for consideration, the following criteria to serve in the Maryland General Assembly must be met:
- Be a registered Democratic voter in the State of Maryland;
- Be a resident of the State of Maryland for one (1) year;
- Be a resident of the 41st Legislative District for six (6) months; and
- Be twenty-five (25) years of age or older.
Interested candidates should email the following materials to baltimorecitydems@gmail.com with the subject line “District 41” by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, January 15, 2025:
- A cover letter and resume;
- A copy of your voter registration card to confirm your voter status; and
- A copy of a valid government ID to verify your age and address.
- Interviews for eligible candidates will be conducted virtually via Zoom on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, starting at 6:00 pm, by the eight (8) voting members of the 41st Legislative District. Applicants will receive details regarding their specific interview time. The interviews will be live-streamed on the BCDSCC’s Facebook page, allowing the public to view the interviews in real-time. - After the interviews have concluded, the eight (8) voting members of the 41st Legislative District will vote publicly. The individual receiving the most votes will be submitted to the Governor, who will have 15 days to make an official appointment. If appointed, the successful candidate will serve the remainder of the term, which concludes in November 2026.
