Today, Alabama A&M University welcomed back faculty and staff for the 2023-24 academic year. President Daniel K. Wims highlighted momentum and growth while delivering a challenge to faculty and staff to maintain greatness as the standard across the University.
Highlights of updates across the University included the record-setting freshman class, upward applications and enrollment trends, increased appropriations, first-of-kind Federal earmarks for campus safety improvements, fundraising growth, new national marketing and public relations strategies, athletics fan experience upgrades and the ongoing campaign to support the Marching Maroon and White Band’s trip to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
President Wims reminded faculty and staff of the importance of their work.
“As we embark on this new semester and its activities, remember that our impact extends far beyond the classroom,” he said. “We have the power to inspire all of our students to reach their full potential. So, let us approach each day with some level of enthusiasm, compassion, commitment, and a shared vision for what we can become as a University.”
Wims also emphasized the transformation of the campus through continued revitalization of the Alabama A&M University (Normal Hill College) Historic District which will include upcoming projects at Hillcrest, Grayson Hall, and Thomas Hall.
“Upon the completion of those improvements, we will not have any unused or boarded up buildings on our campus,” said Wims.
As classes begin Thursday on the Hill, President Wims charged all faculty and staff to embrace the 2023-24 academic year as a moment of immense opportunity.
“It’s our time. Nothing is beyond our reach.”
