A 44-year-old man with a lengthy criminal past and wanted on multiple charges led police on a high-speed chase and, when he jumped out and tried to flee, was tased and then run over by the very vehicle he had stolen, Semmes police said.

The incident began about 2:45 p.m. Thursday when officers on routine patrol in the area of Valhalla Estates spotted a suspicious vehicle and ran the tag, learning the vehicle had been reported stolen from neighboring Prichard. They attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the suspect fled, leading police on a chase which didn’t end until they were able to box in the vehicle on Kali Oaka Road.

It was there the suspect, identified as Bryan Joshua Lee Tettleton, jumped out of the vehicle — with the car still moving — and tried to scale a fence, but fell.

Then the car, still moving, ran over him, breaking his leg. A Semmes officer was also hit by the vehicle, but he was uninjured.

Tettleton was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Once released, he will be charged with receiving stolen property, attempting to elude, reckless endangerment, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.

Additionally, Tettleton has nine active warrants — three felony and nine misdemeanor — from three different agencies within Mobile County.

Tettleton’s criminal history dates back to 1999, according to jail and court records, with charges including drug trafficking, burglary, assault, theft, robbery, multiple counts of probation revocation, and manufacturing/trafficking methamphetamine.
