Over 100 Huntsville City Schools Students Register for New AAMU Dual Enrollment Program

Less than two weeks after the new program was announced, Alabama A&M University welcomed over 100 Huntsville City Schools high school seniors to campus to register for the first cohort of the AAMU-HCS Dual Enrollment program. AAMU officials, including President Daniel K. Wims, greeted the new students and encouraged them to make the most of the unique opportunity to earn early college credit. 

“Everyone here is going to college – right?” Wims asked. The crowd of students filling the AAMU Welcome Center Conference Room answered in unison – “yes.”

“Well, why not start now,” he concluded.

President Wims said students should not only complete the academic course offered though the partnership, but they should find ways to experience the events and organizations offered on campus. 

The dual enrollment academic calendar will coincide with the HCS schedule. Thursday, students were registered for classes, received IDs, and attended presentations on campus technology, classroom expectations, and more. Jhaedyn Sanders and Sikia Dowridge are both seniors at Mae Jemison High School. 

“I heard about the program through my principal,” said Dowridge. “She encouraged me to come here to see the signing of the MOU between Alabama A&M and Huntsville City Schools connecting for this program.”

“I’m looking forward to seeing what college is like,” said Sanders.
