In an auspicious Chapel service last week, the 2024-2025 United Student Movement Officers were sworn in. The United Student Movement (USM) has been an integral part of the university’s student body for 78 years, since 1946. Organized into student governance, elected student leaders aim to give a
unified voice to the student body, enhancing university programs and objectives.

Together university students, administration, faculty and staff gathered to inaugurate the student leaders of this academic school year. Though away representing Oakwood at a separate event, President Leslie Pollard sent an address: “To each of our USM leaders, thank you for taking up the ministry of service, leadership, and voice on behalf of our students. Your commitment to
this good work will make a difference in the student experience. Leaders, please remember that leadership is first and foremost service.” “Your positions are more than titles,” said Philip DeLeon, Associate Dean for Student Involvement, Leadership & Activities. “In this 78 th  year, I’m confident
that you will continue to rise to the occasion, leading Oakwood toward a more inclusive and promising future. Congratulations and may your leadership be defined by progress and unity.”

Madison Minisee, serving as USM’s 7 th  female president, and Julius Mitchell, elected USM Executive Vice President, swore with their fellow officers to faithfully discharge their duties, in recognition of the importance and impact of their roles. They each took time to personally thank their supporters and family as they marked the significance of the occasion.

We are so proud of our student leaders. Please join us in congratulating them and keep them in your prayers.
