A north Alabama police officer was arrested and charged with sexual misconduct earlier this month, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday.

The sheriff’s office led the investigation into Madison Police Officer Kevin Walter, 35, of Harvest, because the incident involved an off-duty police department employee, the office said in a statement.

The complaint filed against Walter showed the officer allegedly had sex with the female victim “without her consent,” according to court records.

The alleged victim and the officer knew each other, according to the sheriff’s office.

Walter was taken to the Madison County Jail on Feb. 8 and was released the same day after posting $1,000 bond. The officer was also ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim.

His employment status was not immediately clear.
