The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office said it has seized 32 dogs that were in poor health, and charges may follow.

The incident happened on Friday, when the sheriff’s office said its patrol division executed a search warrant, along with animal control, at an abandoned residence on County Road 324.

They found the dogs there, along with three dead dogs.

The surviving dogs, which are now being held as evidence, were taken to the Lawrence County Animal Shelter to receive medical care from a local veterinarian.

“It has also come to our attention (from) people are posting on social media that some of the dogs may have been stolen,” the sheriff’s office announced. “We will meet with the district attorney this week to ensure the owners of the dogs are appropriately charged.”
