(HUNTSVILLE, AL- – Mother Georgia Mae Lacy Lanier celebrated her 105th birthday on Saturday, April 15, 2023, with family members and friends, at her home in Huntsville. She was show ered with gifts, flowers, cards, and a poem, titled “Georgia on My Mind”, that was written especially for Mrs. Lanier by her church member, Lynda Porter. Mother Lanier was born and raised in Madison County and has lived her entire life in Madison County. Her earlier years were spent in the Pond Beat community, now the home of the Army’s Redstone Arsenal. Mother Lanier is the last surviving Founding Member and the oldest member of Progressive Union Missionary Baptist Church. Her and her late husband, Mr. Felix Lanier, Sr., are the parents of four children, Thomas (deceased), Everett, Mary and Felix, Jr., (deceased). Mrs. Lanier joins Mr. John Amos Drake, another lifelong Madison County resident, who turned 105 on March 2023.
