Ron Williams, who has served a total of 22 years on the committee, was appointed by Arizona MLK Committee Chair Dr. Gene Blue 10 years ago to oversee the execution of its annual celebration events. The City Council Candidate shared, “with my impending election to the Mesa City Council, I’ve got to assess my overall community volunteer bandwidth. I’ll discuss that decision at our upcoming debrief meeting”.

In addition to being a successful business owner and non-profit executive, Ron is dedicated to community engagement.  His community leadership has earned recognition for the work he has done. A few of his top honors include: Don Eagle – Humanitarian of the Year Award  National Conference for Community & Justice; the Minority Business Advocate of the Year Arizona Minority Business Enterprise Center; the Most Influential Business Leader – Business Journal, AZ’s “Power People”, Power Magazine; Outstanding Community Advocate of the Year Award – Salt River Project (SRP)100 Influential People of Minority Economic Development in the United States; Arizona MLK – “Lifetime Achievement Award”– Phoenix Human Relations Commission; and most recently Arizona Veterans “Hall of Fame Inductee – Class of 2022”. His community engagement has included: helping adopted / foster children and families in crisis; supporting military veterans with employment, education, and entrepreneurship; assisting the homeless, formerly incarcerated, and underserved citizens with food, clothing, shelter, mental health services, and jobs; and providing scholarships and internships for graduating high school seniors.

The Council Candidate currently serves on several Mesa Community Boards; including Visit Mesa, the Mesa Regional Foundation ADI, and Mesa Human Relations Advisory Board. Ron shared, “As Chairperson of the City of Mesa General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC), I’ve been honored to assist with the recommendations we are submitting to the Mayor and City Council, as we help to plan for Mesa’s future through the year 2050. Mesa’s greatest opportunities feature our strengths, such as a strong public safety program, a low crime rate, lower taxes, excellent educational institutions and a community that cares. Mesa is the 3rd largest city in Arizona, the 36th largest in the country, and one of the fastest growing big cities in the nation. Keeping pace with that growth is perhaps one of our biggest challenges. Yet, we still maintain a small town feel because of our strong sense of community, and of working together. My goals as a city council member include maintaining financial stability for the city, increasing public safety resources, and sustaining the high quality of life we enjoy in this city.”
