The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced a massive recall of frozen fruit that includes products sold at major retailers in Alabama.
According to the FDA, Sunrise Growers Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of specific frozen fruit products linked to pineapple from a third-party supplier due to the potential it could be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.
Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, ill or elderly people or others with weakened immune systems. It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. Symptoms in healthy people are usually short-term but can include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea and abdominal pain and diarrhea.
No illnesses have been reported, the FDA said.
