All over social media, members of the winning team and foreign trolls are announcing that Trump’s win was an edict to carry out their plans, which amounts to enacting Project 2025.
They are so clear that it was a mandate that they’re repeating the talking point and battling anyone and everyone over the meaning.
man·date /ˈmanˌdāt/
Noun: An official order or commission to do something; the authority to carry out a policy or course of action, regarded as given by the electorate to a candidate or party that is victorious in an election.
Verb: give (someone) authority to act in a certain way. give (someone) authority to act in a certain way.
That’s how the Oxford dictionary defines “mandate.” It also uses terms like directive, command and bidding (noun) and authorize, sanction and endorse (verb).
Here’s how far away from a mandate Trumps numbers were: he didn’t even get half of the votes cast. Some estimates show him with a 1.7-point lead over Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris.
You can’t even stretch that into becoming a mandate.
In an election, it construes a win so large and decisive that the winning party has no choice to do anything but carry forth with a set of instructions. With the Trump administration, it will mean “anything they want,” to the benefit of themselves and detriment of the rest of us, which is most of us.
Right.
Which is the side that boasts they have a mandate to carry out the far right’s plans for America, sealing the deal that “their” class is taken care of…their class being White, male, Christian and nationalistic.
Wrong.
It is wrong for you and me and those we love, but we lost the national election, and they get to write – and re-write – history. That old adage “to the victor go the spoils” applies, and Trump & Co. will tell their followers anything to take credit for good things and erase the memory of any positive accomplishments of the Biden administration. Brainwashing.
If it sounds like it’s a Russian talking point to say that Trumps resounding win was a mandate, it probably is.
How do we know they intend to re-write history? Trump has already claimed credit for accomplishments of President Biden. Like taking credit for the $35 limit on the cost of insulin for Medicare patients this past summer.
Besides, we know that the winners must keep up their vilification of the left to erase the memory of what the other side has done for them.
Democrats gave some of us decent health care options? No problem: just remove the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) with no replacement that’s viable for the lower half of income levels.
Democrats went to battle for you and erased your student debt, so you could afford to participate in the US economy again? That never happened, and it hurt you and your family’s chances at getting ahead. Your tax dollars paid for it (they didn’t, but…it’s complicated).
Joe Biden’s administration didn’t pull us out of the pandemic-caused recession better than any other country in the world? It’s clear that they’re already blaming Democrats and Biden for one aspect of the recession and recovery: inflation. The price of groceries gave control of our entire government to the Republicans.
In a normal world, the winning side would assess a slim win and realize that they’re on thin ice, then behave accordingly. In this world, the one that is our reality, we know that the implementation of Project 2025 will only further seal Republican control nationally and nationwide.
What Trump, Musk and Ramaswamy have introduced and will continue to develop in place of our democracy is an oligarchy. That’s something Putin is not only familiar with because it’s entrenched in Russian government, but he knows how to control
America will become a system that is down a few rungs on the Russian hierarchy. And that’s a sad result of protest votes, non-votes, misguided loyalties and voting against your own best interests.
