An Ardmore man is dead after the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said he fired shots at deputies, and they returned fire.

The TBI said Jonathan Schutte, 33, died following an incident Sunday evening in Hardin County, Tenn.

Deputies encountered Schutte in a parking lot in the 4700 block of Tennessee 128 South, in Savannah, Tenn.

As deputies approached the vehicle, they said Schutte got out and fired his weapon. The deputies returned the fire, hitting and killing Schutte.

No law enforcement officers were hurt in the incident. Their names were not released.

The incident is under investigation, and findings will be shared with 24th Judicial District Attorney General Neil Thompson for further review.
