Retired Teacher’s Day is Tuesday, November 15, 2022. The Madison County Education Retirees Association (MCERA) joins other associations in the state by acknowledging the contributions of its retirees.

Recognizing the contributions retired educators have made, the Alabama Legislature passed Act No. 90-183 to honor Alabama’s education retirees. The joint resolution sets aside the Tuesday of American Education Week each year to recognize the state’s retired education personnel.

The MCERA is just one of over 75 local units of the Alabama Education Retirees Association, Inc. (AERA), representing more than 21,500 retired educators.

“A retired educator has enriched everyone’s life,”

“Even in our retirement years, retired educators continue to touch the lives of those around us by volunteering in our schools, libraries, Learn- ing Quest, church projects, hospitals, retirement homes, Ark Animal Shelter, Meals on Wheels, the Boys and Girls Club, and more. In 2021, our members volunteered 3,814 service hours in Madison County; a monetary value of $108,851.56,” Threatt continued.

MCERA members will hold their annual E. H. Wilbourn Scholarship Auction on December 1, 2022, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Huntsville, Alabama. Proceeds from the auction will fund a scholarship for one student for four years who attend college to become a teacher.

“All citizens are encouraged to join together in paying tribute to the retired educators of Madison County,” stated Threatt.
