This week, the BCSP profiles the mid-February leaders in the four HBCU

56-54 win at second-place Tuskegee Saturday before winning at Spring Hill Monday, 79-63. Tuskegee (8-8) also fell to Lane Monday, 65-62.

The next date for Miles is Monday at LeMoyne-Owen.

For the women, Tuskegee (11-4) took over first place in the West as the Lady Tigers downed second-place Miles 53-46 Saturday and followed that up with a 59-51 win Monday vs. Lane. Miles, at 10-4, got by Spring Hill 49-46 Monday.

Tuskegee is at Kentucky State Saturday and Central State Monday. Miles is at LOC Monday.

In the East, Clark Atlanta (11-3) posted double-digit wins at Fort Valley State (72-52) and at Albany State (78-62) to stay at the head of that race. Second-place Allen (9-5) was knocked off 57-52 on the road at Edward Waters Saturday before squeaking by Savannah State Monday, 68-66.

CAU hosts Edward Waters Saturday and Savannah State Monday. Allen is at FVSU Saturday and Albany State Monday.

MEAC

Norfolk State (6-1) is still on top of the men’s race as it heads to a road game Saturday at 0-6 Maryland-Eastern Shore before returning home to face 4-3 Delaware State Monday.

Howard (5-2) is a game behind NSU and ahead of three 4-3 teams – Morgan State, S. C. State and DSU – after knocking N. C. Central down to 3-4 with a 82-78 win at home Saturday. The Bison handled winless UMES 77-57 Monday.

This Saturday, Howard is at DSU, MSU and SCSU tangle in Orangeburg, S.C. and NCCU hosts 2-5 Coppin State. Action continues Monday with NCCU hosting MSU, SCSU hosting CSU and Howard in a rematch at UMES.

Norfolk State’s women (7-0) continue to set the pace in the women’s race and are eighth in the College Insider’s Women’s Mid Major Top 25. Howard is 6-1, a game back after a 81-64 win at home Saturday over NCCU and a 66-56 win at UMES Monday.

NSU plays at UMES Saturday and hosts DSU Monday. Howard is at DSU Saturday and hosts UMES Monday. Third-place Coppin State (5-2) is at NCCU Saturday and at SC State Monday.

SWAC

Alabama State got a game-high 26 points from 6-3 redshirt sophomore guard Amarr Knox to hand SWAC men’s leader Southern (10-1) its first conference loss Monday, 82-81. The Hornets, now 6-5, lost to Grambling 87-77 Saturday while Southern defeated Alabama A&M 81-68. Bethune- Cookman and Jackson State are both 8-3 behind Southern. B-CU got tough 3-points wins on the road vs. Prairie View (85-82) Saturday and Texas Southern (80-77) Monday. JSU disposed of Miss. Valley State 92-44 Saturday and downed UAPB, 94-78 Monday.

Southern hosts PV Saturday and TSU Monday. JSU has key dates at FAMU Saturday and B-CU Monday. B-CU hosts Alcorn State Saturday.

The TSU women moved to 11-0 in first place after beating B-CU 64-57 Thursday and FAMU 77-70 Saturday. JSU and Southern are both 9-2 after both got double wins. In games this week TSU is at Southern Thursday and at Grambling Saturday. JSU is on the road at B-CU Thursday and FAMU Saturday. After TSU, Southern hosts PVA&M Saturday.

Lincoln (Pa.) and Bowie State are tied at the top of the men’s North Division with 4-2 records followed by Virginia State a half-game back at 3-2. Saturday on its home floor, VSU knocked off Lincoln 70-55 while BSU squeaked by at Elizabeth City State 78-74. Bluefield State, just a game back of the leaders at 3-3, got 22 points each from Shainen Carter and Larry

Howell to win at home over Virginia Union (3-3) Saturday 97-83.
This week in men’s N. Div. play, Bluefield State is at VSU and BSU is at VUU Wednesday. On Saturday, VSU hosts ECSU, Bluefield State hosts BSU

and VUU plays at Lincoln.
In the men’s South, Fayetteville State is at 8-0 and has a two-and-a-half

game lead over Claflin (5-2). FSU only needs a win in one of its last three division games to wrap up the top seed. That could come when the Broncos host Winston-Salem State Thursday. FSU then plays at 3-4 Livingstone Saturday. Claflin hosted third-place Shaw (3-4) Wednesday (Feb. 12) and travels to FSU next Wednesday (Feb. 19).

In the women’s North, Virginia Union, Virginia State and Bowie State are tied at the top with 5-1 marks. All three were winners Saturday.

This week, VUU and BSU tangle in Richmond Wednesday (Feb. 12) while VSU hosts Bluefield State. On Saturday, BSU is at Bluefield State, ECSU is at VSU and Lincoln is at VUU. Next Wednesday (Feb. 19), VUU hosts ECSU, while VSU and BSU tangle in Bowie, Md.

On the final day of the regular season, next Saturday (Feb. 22), VUU will host VSU in Richmond, Va. and Lincoln plays at BSU.

In the women’s South, FSU (6-1) got 23 points and four assists from Talia Trotter to subdue J. C. Smith 84-51 Thursday and has a one-game lead over 5-2 Livingstone with 4-3 Claflin another game back.

FSU is back in action Thursday at 1-5 Winston-Salem State and then takes on its nearest contenders at Livingstone Saturday and Claflin next Wednesday (Feb. 19). Livingstone is then back in action Wednesday (Feb. 19) hosting JCSU.

SIAC

After beating Morehouse and Clark Atlanta in Atlanta in late January, former men’s East Division leader Albany State (11-5) fell to Morehouse (83- 79 in OT) at home Saturday and then lost at home to CAU Monday (83-75). The Golden Rams are now behind Edward Waters (12-4) and CAU (12-4) in the E. Div. standings.

EWU got home wins over Allen Saturday (84-57) and came back from a 13-point halftime deficit to nip Benedict 75-73 Monday. Six-six junior guard Prince Davies III and 6-4 freshman guard Jaelen Nelson both had 19 in the comeback win. Davies III had 17 and Nelson 14 in the win over Allen.

Edward Waters is at Clark Atlanta Saturday in the match up of E. Div. leaders. CAU then hosts Savannah State Monday.
